In the 2005 WRC Monte Carlo Rally, the Subaru team brought out their updated Subaru Impreza from the latter half of the 2004 season. Despite facing brake problems, 2003 champion Petter Solberg managed to stay competitive with the front runners after the first 2 days. On the final day, he posted the best times in the first 2 stages, climbing up to 3rd place before ultimately retiring due to a severe crash in the snow. Despite a rough start to the season, Solberg and the Subaru team quickly recovered by winning round 2 in Sweden, demonstrating their ability to reclaim the WRC crown.
