About the BB-62 New Jersey
The BB-62 New Jersey, in service from 1943 to 1991, is the most decorated battleship in U.S. history. Launched in 1942, it was one of 4 Iowa class battleships built by the U.S. Navy. This impressive ship had a displacement of 45,000 tons, an incredible 212,000hp, and was equipped with three turrets of 50 caliber 40.6cm triple guns. Despite its size, stretching over 270m, it was designed to fit through the Panama Canal. After serving in major battles in the Pacific during WWII, it was deployed to both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1982, the ship was upgraded with modern technology and weapons, including the ability to launch Tomahawk and Harpoon missiles. It also provided support during the Lebanon conflict and the Gulf War, before being decommissioned for the final time in 1991.
